Minutes of Fundy Quilters Nov. 24th Meeting

There were 15 people at our meeting this evening and we had a great time at the chair sale.

We discussed several things and agreed to pay Brenda for the cash box she purchased to keep the money in. We also talked about opening a bank account. If we decide to open a Fundy Quilters Account we have to have by laws, be audited etc. which sounded like too much work for our little group.  Perhaps two members can open up an account and just keep the funds there. Brenda had to work so we will discuss this with her at another time.
We agreed to pay the south Berwick Hall $100.00(motion was made by Molly and seconded by Suzanne and all were in favour)
Mary Jane is going to check with the manor to see if there is anything they would like us to do for them. Perhaps we could make bibs for the residents or something similar.  She will let us know at the January meeting.
Everyone showed off their block of the month block. Please bring them in each month so we can all see.
Verna won the fat quarter draw.  She has chosen snowflakes/snowmen for the January theme.
We will NOT meet in December for our Thursday night gathering.  )SEW IN Saturday will still be held the 2nd Saturday of the month.
Our meeting in January will be a pot luck supper. Our start time will be 6PM for that. We will have the secret sister revealing, show and tell and all our usual activities.  We passed around a signup sheet to see who would bring what to eat. It looks like a yummy supper so far.
Alice-dessert
Sharon—chicken casserole
Molly—Date Squares
Suzanne—Party Pork
Mary Jane—dessert & rolls
Karen—lasagna
Verna—meatballs
Sandra-Fried Rice

We talked about storm closings and we decided that if school is cancelled, then we will cancel too.
We did not get a balance form Brenda, but it will get posted on the blog when I find out what it is.

October 26 meeting

Fundy Quilters Meeting on Oct. 26
Grandview Manor

We had a very busy meeting this month. We tried to plan activities for all of our upcoming meetings and discussed ways to improve the efficiency of how we do things.
Several things:
1.      We will pay our dues in one lump sum--$20.00 and that will prevent people from having to do fancy accounting each month.  Brenda I collected $160.00 this month
2.    Monthly topics and activities
November-Chair auction-you put everything on a chair and sell it. You keep the proceeds.  Rumour has it that some people will be selling jelly rolls of fabric.
December—no meeting this month, just Sew In on the 2nd Saturday as usual
January—our winter potluck supper. This will be our Secret sister unveiling.
February—our quarter auction. Bring in items to sell, Alice will be the auctioneer and all proceeds will go to the Foodbank.
March—this is a regular meeting just in case we have had a cancellation due to bad weather the other months
April—this will be a sewing meeting. We will be working on Childrens Quilts. This will be a group effort –we will need sewers, pressers and cutters.
May—Pat is going to do a workshop for us on making the “Pointless Star”.  This really is a star pattern without points!
June—this will be our summer potluck and the revealing of the mystery quilts
3.    We are going to do a mystery quilt.  Janet passed out the first month’s block at the meeting. We decided we will need to do 2 blocks per month if we want to see the end project in June.  The blocks will be using 2.5 inch strips so it is intended to be a scrap project. If you wish you could get a jelly roll to be coordinated.  However we all have lots of scraps and this might be a chance to use them up.
4.    The Paradise Guild is hosting a “Gathering of the Guilds” at 11:30 on Nov. 2.  This should be a fun event if you are able to go.  There will be sandwiches and desserts provided and there is no charge to attend.  Our group is invited, along with other quilting groups in the area.  There will be a penny auction held to raise money for the hall.
5.    The spring challenge for the Centreville Quilt show to be held on Mother’s Day 2012 is called “In a Country Garden”  The minimum size is 900 sq. inches and it can be bigger than that!  It does not have to be square. There is also a rug hooking challenge for the same theme.  You do not have to be local to win. The winners are decided by the viewers voting on their favourite selection.
6.    Alice won the fat quarter draw and she has chosen red for next month.
     7. Please email Janet Trites (jtrites@eastlink.ca) if you would like me to email you the block for the first month of the mystery quilt.

Pre meeting notes

We have several items on the agenda this month:
1. paying our dues all at once-it is hard for Brenda to keep records, especially if she happens to have to work.
 2. workshop ideas
3. our winter fundraiser idea
4.  Check out the new fundy quilters blog --last month's minutes will be there with our fat quarter theme this month!!
 5. Alice has asked me to design a mystery block of the month quilt for the group.  I will bring the first month's  pattern with me--of course it will be a scrap quilt--and made up of 2.5 in. strips.  We will get a new block each month.
6.   Sew In at the South Berwick Hall is on Nov. 12. We always have a great time sewing.
I am so delighted that I can be there this month to sew at 3 PM--finally!

August Meeting Minutes

I hope everyone is having a great fall. You can't beat this weather.  We would like to make a change to this month's meeting--a field trip to the Centreville Dessert/Quiltparty!  There will be a guest speaker, fine food and  music--The cost is ten dollars.  The event will be held at the Centreville Baptist Church Hall and starts at 7pm.
We plan to sew in the afternoon at the Manor as usual at 3 o'clock We will break for supper and then head to Centreville at 6:00.  I plan to drive so that the far away people will not need to.   I will be attending a funeral Thursday afternoon so will be not able to sew but I will be back for supper and be ready to drive.  Sharon and Ann tell me that the desserts will be well worth the trip .

Heather and I had a great weekend of sewing at my cottage. It was a little nippy but we got a lot done and enjoyed our shopping excursion. This weekend I went back there and managed to  buy more fabric at the big sales at the two shops!  My husband thinks I bought enough for the whole quilt group.
Next month our fat quarter theme is children's prints.
Sew In at the South Berwick Hall will be held as usual on Sat. Oct 8. That is Thanksgivingweekend but most people really wanted to get together to sew that day.  We were planning on working on children's quilts for charity but just bring what you want to work on.

I have set up a http://www.fundyquilters.blogspot.com/ space to store  our minutes and items of interest .  That way you can mark this in your favourites and check for updates .  I will make it a little more fancy when things settle down.  Things have been a little hectic for me lately.

Hope to see you on Thursday
Janet
